In 2011, Dan Gvozden created GRIND MY REELS accompanied by a simple tagline: Hyper-Critical Film Essays, Reviews & Commentary. Since then the site has grown in immeasurable ways and has incorporated all different kinds of media that discuss the world of film.
The bread and butter of GRIND MY REELS since its inception has always been the film reviews (Saturdays), which strive to be entertaining and informative. The style of reviews featured on the site has changed over time. The writing has no settled into the familiar first-person perspective that lends them a personal and wholly objective air. These reviews are catalogued at the end of the year for a “Best of 20__” list.
GRIND MY REELS launched its first podcast, The Film Grind, in 2012 and after fifteen episodes it was merged with the Outside the Envelope podcast. The twice-monthly podcast features cohosts Brian Roan, Rick Sandlas, and Dan Gvozden speak about the films chosen by viewers as both the best and worst films of the month.
2013 saw the advent of Stream My Reels, a weekly column (Tuesdays) that features a review and suggestion of one streaming title for readers to watch. That same year, GRIND MY REELS shed its old skin to become the user-friendly and cleaner site that it is today.
